Clevedon Host Mini Regatta
On 5 Oct, we hosted our first mini regatta at Clevedon sea front. It was great to have Burnham, Bristol, Porlock and Portishead as guests at our first official competition, which we hope will be the pre-cursor to a local Avon & Severn league.
Thanks to those who worked tirelessly before, during and afterwards to make sure that a great fun day was had by all - a real team effort
Clevedon rowers to recreate historical race to land a pilot on a ship
Two crews from Clevedon Pilot Gig Club are set to race to transfer a pilot to the Matthew just off the coast of Portishead.
With the support of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association (CPGA), the club has been working with Bristol Pilots Ltd and the ‘Matthew’ to plan the event which will take place on Weds 31st May. On this day, the Matthew will be transiting from Sharpness to Bristol and requires a pilot for passage through the Avon Gorge.
Clevedon Support Exmouth Club Launch
A group of supporters headed back down the M5 to Exmouth on Saturday 22nd March plus ‘Watch and Pray’ towed courtesy of Rob and Debs. This was Exmouth’s Big Day, officially launching the Club to the Town and with a blessing of their newly refurbished gig, but the opportunity was taken to add a few rows of our own before the formalities.
Rowathon - Sat 30th November 2013
On Saturday 30th November, Clevedon Gig Club held a 'rowathon' in the shop windows of Spinning Weal on Hill Road, Clevedon. The aim was to row as far as we could in 12 hours on two rowing machines. The total 24 hours rowing was split into half hour slots, with 48 rowers each taking their turn.
Clevedon Pilot Gig Club Hits the Big Screen
There was a sell-out audience of over 300 at The Curzon Cinema on Sunday evening, 20th October, for the eagerly awaited premiere of the filmed documentary ‘Blood, Sweat and Oars’, charting Clevedon Pilot Gig Club’s build-up to and participation in the World Pilot Gig Championships in the Scilly Isles last May.
